Standard Deviation & Confidence Intervals
Statistical metrics measuring how widely actual slot returns will disperse around the theoretical RTP over a given sample of spins.
Standard deviation (sigma) quantifies the dispersion of spin outcomes around the mathematical mean (RTP). In slot engineering, a 95% confidence interval spans approximately +/- 1.96 standard errors, while a 99% confidence interval spans +/- 2.58 standard errors. Over small samples (e.g. 1,000 spins), the interval is wide, explaining why short-term results diverge drastically from published RTP.
\text{CI}_{95\%} = \text{RTP} \pm 1.96 \times \frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{N}}Confidence interval equals the theoretical RTP plus or minus 1.96 times the standard deviation divided by the square root of the spin count N.
For a slot with 96.0% RTP and sigma = 6.0 over 1,000 spins, the 95% confidence interval is 96.0% +/- 37.2% (actual returns between 58.8% and 133.2%).
